Aged 16
At 16 years old you can ride up to a 49cc restricted moped with L-plates, a provisional moped licence & a valid CBT certificate.
Aged 17-19 (A1 Licence)
From 17 years old you can only ride up to a 125cc machine with L-plates, a provisional motorcycle licence & a valid CBT certificate
If you take your full test on a 125 you are only able to ride a 125 without L Plates.
On passing the CBT, Theory and practical tests from aged 19 you get a licence (A2) to ride a bike of up to 47bhp, with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.1 kW/kg
Aged 19-24 (A2 Licence)
From 19 years old you can ride up to a 125cc machine with L-plates, a provisional motorcycle licence & a valid CBT certificate.
You can take a test on a 395cc min engine size and minimum power of 33bhp and not exceeding 46.6bhp and with a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 Kw/kg and not derived from a vehicle more than double its power.
On passing (CBT, theory test & practical test on a manual 395cc+ machine) you get a full licence but only to ride a bike with a max power of 46.6bhp (unless you take a further test (A) after 2 years or are 24 years old +) and with a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 Kw/kg and not derived from a vehicle more than double its power.
Aged 24 and above (A Licence)
From 24 years old you can ride up to a 125cc machine with L-plates, a provisional motorcycle licence & a valid CBT certificate
You can take a test on a 595cc + bike with a minimum power of 53.6bhp
